Week 34 in Spain! (4th in Madrid Area)

7/14/14

I have had a pretty good week. Today we went to the Spain version of Lagoon with the Elders! SO Fun!!! I love Roller Coasters and it was EXACTLY like Lagoon!

This week has been really busy, but really long at the same time. We are trying to contact more and our lessons fire on us all the time, but that's nothing new:) I try really hard every day to have a good attitude. That is so important and I have such a strong testimony about attitude now. I am never going to complain about anything ever again! We are so blessed and we are given so much! When we start having a bad attitude or we aren't grateful for the blessings we do have, I think Heavenly Father is a little slower in blessing us again, or we just get to the point when we just really don't see any of our blessings. It is really sad when people live like that and makes it harder for you to work.

I have really tried working on our relationship with the members. It is so important that they know you are there to serve and help them and that you love them. When you know who the people in the ward are and they have confidence in you, they are more willing to work with you. I have seen a lot of improvement since I have been here. It is exciting. I have also seen a lot of improvement in myself. It feels good when you can see the changes that come from your hard work. But even if you can't see them immediately, it is important to have faith that they are there or coming. I feel so much more confident in every single way.

I have an interview with President on Thursday? Quizas (maybe) :/ I love President Jackson and Hermana Jackson. President really tries hard to get to know you and the family. It is really comforting to know how much he cares. I can't imagine having to try to remember all the missionaries here. He really cares about us and how we feel. He always makes me feel really good about myself and the things I am doing. He really makes me feel like I am in the area for a reason.

About the running of the bulls, Last Monday we saw something about it, but that was it. And the tomato festival is in Valencia. I wish we had something like that! That sounds so boss! And that is our piso! We live in the very top floor, not too exciting, just 2 floors:) The building next to us is a motorcycle repair shop/ foosball table shop. They make foosball tables:) It's pretty cool, but noisy. We live in a pretty sketchy area, but there are worse:)

That's way neat and I can't believe Braden is home! He is a great guy, that's so exciting!

Bennett is such a cutie, but tell Ben I'm not so sure what to say about the beard....Sammie is super guapa as usual. Joseph told all about Youth Conference and his MC experience, what a character. He's funny. He is so excited for his mission, I am so proud of him and I know he'll do great. I told him if he needed anything I am here. I would love to help as much as I can. This really is the best decision I have made IN MY WHOLE LIFE! I remember the plane ride here. It would be a tender mercy if Tanner was there. Que miedo que yo tenia! (That was a fear I had.) Knowing someone is a huge comfort, but then again, it was fun being with all the missionaries I didn’t know and got to meet. There will be missionaries there with him. it will be so much fun!

I will let you guys know when I get the package. I should get it this Wednesday at Zone Conference. Thanks for everything! I love you guys! Have a great week!

Week 33 in Spain! (3rd wk. Madrid Area)

Tell mom I'm fine, I have the spirit:) The company next to our piso is like a motorcycle repair place:) It isn't the worst street in Madrid and it is actually a really good building:)

Kadee is soooo cute! Que linda! Tell Amee and Jared Felizidades and that I miss and love them tons!

That’s so exciting the basement looks crazy! I forgot what my room looked like:) I hope you didn't have any trouble getting my stuff out. I'm totally fine with Mal and Rob moving into my room....as long as they are fine with the ghost there:)

When we teach the first vision I feel like that sometimes, that I am teaching it to children. The people we teach have never heard anything like this before and don't know anything about Joseph Smith or the restored church. We have to explain it as simply as possible so they can understand it and feel the Spirit testify to them that it is true. They are literally like children. or at least their testimonies are. Preach my Gospel does a really good job at explaining it simply. Also there is a really good cup activity that we use to explain the establishment of the church and the apostasy for children. It also helps us to memorize the first vision and to hold up the picture of it so they can visualize what happened when we are reciting it. The restoration is my favorite lesson to teach because it is so important and really starts everything. After they have a testimony of the restoration, everything falls in place. I can always feel the spirit really strong when I teach it. We have been teaching the 1st lesson to the members recently. I made a lesson for it that focuses more on the restoration and how it is a light in our lives. I start out by reading with them the first vision and tell them to focus on the words darkness, confusion, light, and understanding. Then we read and talk about the words and how the restoration has been a light in our lives. And then we talk about the different things we have from the restoration that acts as lights in our lives and brings understanding and that usually leads to Jesus and how He is a light. Then we read 3 Nephi 11: 10-11 about Jesus then 3 Nephi 18:24 about how we are testigos ( can't remember the English word for that) (witnesses) of Christ and how we are examples of Him. Then we read Mathew 5:14-16 and talk about how we can bring and be the light in others’ lives through missionary work. Then we invite them to pray about someone they can have a missionary experience with and that we would have a follow up lesson the next week para ver que tal (to see how). It is my favorite, people really get excited and it helps to evaluate sometimes what the gospel and the restoration really means to us.

Thanks for the papers from Elder Beeton. They are really good and I think they could do a lot of good things in this ward. Tell him his work is spreading all the way to Europe!

I love that scripture about seeking Christ. It reminds me that we should always think about how we are seeking Him and how we are trying to find Him in our lives but also others. The atonement is such an amazing thing. It has been an amazing experience being around people all the time whose lives have really been affected by the atonement. It helps me to remember to utilize it more and to be more humble and realize the blessings and privileges I have been given.

I have had a great week this week. This week I have seen so many miracles happen. miracles of missionary work and the power of it. First we are teaching a woman named Martha. She is in her 40's and is just beautiful. She is Spanish and a reference from a member. While we were talking to her I felt the Spirit so strong. I could feel Gods love for her probably stronger than anything I have ever felt before. She asked us so many questions and wanted to know how she could be baptized. She is so special and I know God loves and cares about her and has prepared a way for her to find the truth in her life.

I feel so blessed to be here. I love you! I don’t have any more time to e-mail so tell mom I love her and that I send her a letter today! I love you! Have a good week!

Week 32 in Spain! (2nd week in Madrid)

6/30/14

This week has been slow, but really good. Transfers were a bit crazy. My district leader in Gijon didn’t know anything about what I was supposed to do, so I got off the bus in Madrid, called Hermana Reyes on a payphone, and found out she wasn't supposed to pick me up until around 6:30! I got to Madrid at 3:30! So I had to take the metro and make my way over to our area. It was so scary and I couldn't remember how the metro system worked, but it worked out and it was super fun!

The city is so fun! I love it. The ward is a lot like the branch in Gijon.  I like working with the wards a lot as well. My first Sunday here I was asked to bear my testimony, play the piano for sacrament meetings, and play for the primary from now on......nothing new:) The work is a lot different. We don't have a lot of investigators and we get fired on ALL the time, that’s not new, but contacting is super different. The problem isn't quantity, its quality:) But I have learned a lot. I feel a lot different here, confidence wise. I don't feel like a junior companion anymore. I feel like I can take control...:) I like it! Officially, I am no longer a junior companion, I am now considered a SENIOR Companion! Crazy! It's so weird feeling.  Movin' my way up the chain!:) The World Cup is HUGE here! There are always people cheering and singing in the streets! When Spain lost, the next day was THE WORST day to contact! NO ONE wanted to talk to you. It is still a touchy subject...

I am glad the week went well, that grandma's knee surgery went well and that girls camp was good. I love working with the youth here. I would love to serve in Young Women’s one day!

I read the paper Elder Beeton wrote. That is exactly what the ward here needs. It is funny how things work out like that. It is going to help a lot here! INSPIRATION! He sounds like a good missionary who worked hard.

I have learned so much about the atonement while I have been here. I don't think I really fully understood it before I left. It is such a big part of our everyday lives. That not only is it for our sins, but through the atonement and through our many imperfections, we can change. And each day, with hard work we can improve and get that much closer to Heavenly Father. But I think for me, a huge blessing is that the atonement isn't just a onetime gift. It is continuous. The process of change isn't just a snap. It's gradual and consistent. We will succeed and we will fall constantly. But if we are consistent and humble. The Lord will be consistent with us and lift us up. I like the scripture is the Book of Mormon talking about the Atonement and how Christ was raised on the cross by men so that men can be raised by him and his atonement. With the atonement and with Christ, we can get back up and move forward.

I love you guys and pray for you every night! Thank you for your love and support! Have a great week!

Week 31 in Spain! (1st Week in Madrid! 2nd area)

6/23/14

I am great! Right now I am on the bus (we can email on the bus! So cool!) on my way to my new area!!!!! Ahhh I'm so excited, but really nervous at the same time. Well, I'm not going to the Canaries, but I am going to the very center of Madrid! The area is called Cuatro Caminos. Imbgoingbto Barrio 1 (ward 1) everyone says its a really good ward.....and that there are a lot of Dominicans there. I'm right in the middle of the city and the stadium for Real Madrid is in my area! My new companion is Hermana Reyes. She is from Utah. She has about a year on the mission. Elder Nielsen said she was really nice and really blond. I'm excited. It will be good to change areas. Being in the North forever kind of makes you feel isolated. We called president Jackson yesterday to ask about a baptism we are having and he wanted to talk to me about the area I was going to. He said a lot of really nice things that gave me a little more confidence. We'll see what happens. It will be weird going from a tiny branch of 35 people to a ward. Hermana Endicott said that the work would be better too. I'm going to miss her a lot! Her and Elder Lee and Elder Nielsen were great and we are going to have so much fun when we all get home.

I'm glad that mom did well on her talk. She was nervous about it. Did she cry a lot? Dalia colindres wrote me about Derek. The work is so different in different areas. He struggles having time to get to all of their appointments, we struggle getting people to stop and listen to us. We talked a lot about attitude in our Zone Conference. Different areas may be harder or more challenging, but if you have a good attitude about what you are doing and know why you are there, it shouldn't matter where you are. Everyone told me when I started in the North that the North is so hard and that it is really draining, but I loved it, and even though it was hard, I know I did my best. I am really proud of what I have done and I really love that branch.

I loved what you said about being nervous as a new missionary. I remember exactly what that I felt like. When I found out about transfers, I felt exactly the same. Feelings of uncertainty, not knowing what lies ahead of you. It is hard not to feel like you just want to quit before anything bad or embarrassing happens, but I was reading in Moroni the other day and I can across some scriptures that I really liked and really helped me. Moroni 7:12-13, “Wherefore, all things which are good cometh of God; and that which is evil cometh of the devil; for the devil is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually, and inviteth and enticeth to sin, and to do that which is the evil continually. But behold, that which is of God invitheth and enticeth to do good contunually; wherefore, everything which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.” I know this is true, and for me, it has been a hard lesson, but those feelings of inadequacy don't come from Heavenly Father. He doesn't want us to fear or be afraid to do his will. When we have fear there is no room for faith. I know that when we have faith in our Heavenly Father and trust that he will take care of us, everything will work out and we will have no reason to fear.

I love you guys and can't wait to tell you about the new things I am doing. I am in Madrid right now with my new companion. I can tell there is going to be a lot of work to do and it is a lot different from Gijon, but Hermana Reyes seems great and it is beautiful here. I know Heavenly Father will be right by my side. If I have a good attitude and strive to leave this area better than I found it, everything will work out the way it is suppossed to. I love you. Thank you for your words of encouragement and love! Talk to you soon!

Week 30 in Spain!

6/16/14

I am great! My cough is gone (I think I had bronchitis:/) and I am seeing so many miracles every day. I feel great! I had a turning point in my mission this transfer. I really know my purpose here now and can see how blessed I have been being here. Every day is better.

Week 29 in Spain! (22 in Gijon!)

6/9/14

Everything is great! These past couple of weeks have been so busy, but really good.
I can’t believe Joseph is graduated! This year has gone by so fast! It looks like he had a lot of rewards. I’m glad, he definitely worked really hard. I’m sure he is so happy. It is funny, that someone who hated school so much accomplished so much. Now he can relax for a couple months. What institute classes is he taking? Do you know who the teachers are?

I’m great and feeling better. I still have a little cough, but it is getting better slowly. I don’t think it is a huge problem. Last week was our Zone Conference. It is a little different than Zone meeting. President and Hermana Jackson came and the AP’s came. They all talked to us and our Zone leaders spoke to us. They all had some really good messages and it was fun to hear from them and see them all. The Zone Conference was on Tuesday and on Monday we had a Zone P-day. That was fun. We went to Oviedo and did a hike to this huge statue of Christ. It was really hot and a lot harder that we thought. But it was fun. We got some really good pictures and it was fun to be able to hang out with everyone.

Hermana Endicott and I are doing great! We have a new investigator named Nelly!(not the same Nelly) She is older and a member reference from Nancy. She is from Argentina so she has the coolest accent. She is so sweet and Golden! Yesterday we had the greatest experience with her at church. She got there and sat by Nancy and everyone in the branch was so kind to her. She made so many new friends and participated in all the lessons. She loved it. Afterwards President spoke with her and his wife invited her over for medio dia. We all came over and ate with them. I love it when the Branch helps out. It makes all the difference. When we don’t have to worry about our investigators and the Branch just takes care of them, it is so nice! Yesterday was a miracle!

Well transfers are in two weeks. I’m getting nervous about it. I’ve been in Gijón for four now, and that is a pretty long time. I am pretty sure I am leaving. Probably to Madrid. I am excited though. I don’t think I could handle staying for five. I love Gijón, but at the same time I feel ready to move on.
I hope everything is going good! Give my love to the fam! What’s everyone up to?
Love you!
